Acupuncture is the insertion of fine needles on specific acupuncture points used to treat specific signs and symptoms.

It works to maintain the body’s balance by focussing on all factors of wellbeing:physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Aiming to treat the root cause of the condition and its signs and symptoms.

Many people use acupuncture as treatment for a variety of health issues such as pain, stress, digestive issues, mental health, gynaecological issues, respiratory issues, skin problems. Others choose to use acupuncture to enhance their wellbeing and prevent illness.

Increasingly women are choosing acupuncture to aid fertility and provide support during pregnancy and labour treating morning sickness, pelvic pain, turning breech babies, heartburn, anxiety and depression and much more.
Frequency and length of treatments will depend on the presenting health picture, some responds the treatment quickly but chronic conditions are likely to need treatment long term.

Facial acupuncture is a natural drug free face lift, using face and body points.
-It increased blood circulation which improves skin tone, colour and texture.
-Stimulates the production of collagen, plumping up the skin thus reducing lines and wrinkles.
-Stimulates facial muscles and tightens them.
-Intadermal needles cause non visible microtrauma under the skin stimulating woundhealing response and increases cell generation smoothing and filling out wrinkles.

Each acupuncture facial is finished with an aromatherapy facial. Or upgrade to our 24 Karat Gold face mask facials.

Recommended is a course of 6 treatments.

Fertility acupuncture

How can acupuncture help with fertility?

Acupuncturists aim to rebalance your energy flow and prime your body for fertility. The British Acupuncture Council believes acupuncture may boost female fertility by doing three key things:

  • Regulating hormone function
  • Increasing blood flow to the ovaries and uterus and helping to relax your muscles which can improve the chance of an embryo implanting.
  • Tackling the causes of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) – a common cause of infertility
  • Generally helping to relieve stress and make you feel more relaxed

Is it recognised by the medical community?

The jury’s out. Many doctors are sceptical about acupuncture, saying there’s little scientific evidence it can help with infertility. But others believe it can help by stimulating nerve and muscle tissue, and by helping you relax and de-stress – which is key to boosting fertility.

There’s also evidence to suggest that conception rates improved during IVF when acupuncture was performed, but this was only true when the acupuncture was performed the same day the embryos were being implanted in the uterus.

Acupuncture during fertility treatment

Acupuncture is such a popular treatment for infertility, some IVF clinics have acupuncturists working in their clinics, or they’re keen to refer you to a local trusted practitioner. As the research swings both ways, and the treatment itself is harmless, it’s generally accepted that acupuncture for fertility could be worth trying if you’re looking to increase your chances of success.

How might acupuncture help my partner’s fertility?

The British Acupuncture Council claims there’s evidence to show acupuncture increases sperm motility (how fast the sperm swim), as well as increasing levels of the male sex hormone testosterone and lowering the temperature of the scrotum (where sperm are stored), creating a better environment for keeping them healthy.

What happens during a consultation?

Acupuncturists usually take a full medical history, including details of your menstrual cycle and the results of fertility tests you’ve had. As well as the needle treatment, appointments usually include advice on diet and lifestyle changes that can boost fertility.

Pre-birth acupuncture consists of a set of weekly acupuncture sessions beginning around 36-37 weeks and continuing until the commencement of labour. They are intended to prepare a woman for a harmonious birth and positive experience. By balancing hormones, calming the sympathetic nervous system and improving blood flow to the reproductive organs this series of treatments is beneficial to ripen her cervix, calm her mind, and strengthen her blood and energy in order for her mind and body to be ripe and ready for a smooth labor and birth.

Studies show some very promising statistics on the positive effects of cervical ripening and we see this confirmed on a daily basis in our personal practice. These positive effects include shorter duration of labor, 35% reduction in medical inductions, 32% lower cesarean rates and even a 31% reduction in requests for epidural with an overall increase in natural normal vaginal deliveries.

In my experience mums to be find these sessions deeply relaxing and enjoyable.

I strongly encourage all women to have pre-birth acupuncture and be proactive and educated in their pregnancy and childbirth choices.

Cups are either moved over the skin or left in place, this opens pores, stimulates blood flow, balances and realigns the flow of qi, breaks up obstructions, relieves tight muscles and allow toxins to be drawn out of the body.

Moxibustion

Moxibustion is an essential part of chinese medicine which uses moxa, a soft wooly substance made from Mugwort. In moxibustion the moxa is either placed directly on the skin, on the needle or held just above the skin, over acupuncture points or meridian pathways. The herb is lit and as it smoulders slowly a gentle heat penetrates the skin and affects the flow of qi and blood in the area.
